Event Health Screening
A COVID-19 screening workflow for a Maryland county’s sports events. Players, coaches, and referees answered a short health screening before they took part, and organizers verified each person’s status on site from a Google Sheet. Thousands of responses ran through it.

Who is cleared to play today?
During COVID-19, the county needed a way to keep its sports events running. That meant every person on the field had to be screened before they took part: the players, and the staff who make an event happen, including coaches and referees. It also meant the people running each event needed a reliable way to know, on site, who had been screened and who was clear to participate.
The screening
We built the screening on Typeform’s API. Before an event, players and staff answered a short questionnaire: basic questions about whether they were showing symptoms, plus the qualifying questions that would otherwise keep someone out of participating.
The organizer’s side
A questionnaire on its own is only a record. What made this a compliance tool was the other end: we integrated the responses with Google Sheets, so event organizers could see the compliance status of the people in front of them and verify each one before they took the field.
We built on tools rather than from scratch on purpose. Typeform handled the questionnaire and Google Sheets gave organizers a view they already knew how to use, so the work went into the part that mattered: getting each answer to the right person in time to act on it. Over the life of the program, thousands of responses came through it.
